Newsflash! September 25th, 2012

Sept. 25th, 2012

Well a lot has happened since the last time I posted. We went to the Closing Ceremonies on August 12th, and had a gret time. We were sporting our Canadian jean jackets and a feeling of the end of a chapter. There were feelings of joy and relief and a bit of sadness that it was all over.

My husband and I took the train to Paris for a short vacation and had a wonderful. When we arrived home, I was soon off again for some sponsor appearances and events in Vancouver and Toronto for PwC. Then off to a friend's wedding in Saskatoon and another trip to Vancouver for Kidsport fundraising and Superior Tofu sponsor event. It has been a very busy month!

I just returned from Toronto for the Canadian Olympic Committee's Olympic Heroes Tour. We had breakfast with Kidsport and Boys and Girls Club youth, I went to do a sport demo and talk at the Town Centre Montessori Private School, and then we visited some of the kids at the Sick Kids Hospital. The next day I did an interview with Jian Ghomeshi on CBC's Q Radio show. Afterwards we went to the Parade around downtown Toronto. It was amazing to see so many people out to cheer us on and show their support. It was so cool! That evening we went to the COC Hall of Fame Gala, which Fundraised over a 3 million dollars for the Canadian Olympic Foundation that funds athletes. It was a great night of Inductions and performances by Cirque de Soleil, Hedley, and many more.

The following day I went with Tonya to help with the Grand Opening of a Tapout gym in Burlington. It was a lot of fun. We got to meet some MMA fighters and Dan "punkass" Caldwell, co-founder of Tapout. Later that evening we went to watch UFC 152 at the ACC All in all, it was a great weekend.

Now I'm looking forward to this week. The Women's Wrestling World Championships are happening in Edmonton this week. I won't be competing, but I will be taking part in many aspects of the event. Tonya and I will be putting on a 2 session clinic at the U of A and doing some talks to youth at the Venue on Thursday and Friday. We will be at the competition to cheer on our teammates and sign autographs and take pictures. Hope to see a lot of fans there!

I am a Cultural Journalist and Chinese and glad to see that you won Bronze- But also being the Beijing
Olympic Gold Winner - one must not forget that you have won more than just Medals, but an opportunity to show that Canadian Women's Wrestling is no longer a back door sport and that your inspiration will no doubt see another Female Wrestler on the Podium be it, the Olympics, Pan Am, for Canada.

Its Like you were Born to Wrestle and be a Winner

I was very impressed by your story and great job at the Olympics. But I was especially impressed with your motivational talks to the high school in hazelton. I am a lab tech in prince rupert and we are hosting a regional lab conference at the end of October. Sat Oct 27. I was wondering if your schedule would allow you to fly in and perhaps talk at the high school too. Please let me know if that would be at all possible. Robin Knox prince rupert 250-624-5608.

Hello Carol, congradulations. I hope you get this and can answer my question.I am a wrestler by trade and heart but had to give it up before I hit my prime. I want to win gold for Canada in Rio but I don't know who to talk to about resuming training and qualifying. If you could help me out with that I can guarantee another gold for our country's team. My name is Doug Beaverstock and my email is dougiebeaverstock@yahoo.ca. I sincerely hope you can find the time to get back to me, thank you. If it matters, between 1990-1997 I wrestled in over 500 matches losing once and drawing once and I believe in my mind and heart I can do the same in Rio.

Hi Carol,

When I heard your name for the first time in 2008, my first thought is yeah, a Canadian got a medal. My second thought was that it was a coincidence that my youngest sister's name is Carol, and you also share the same last name as my mom.

Congratulations on your dedication to your athletic career, your aspirations for your future career, and commitment to your family.

You did a great job on the mat at the Common Wealth Games!

Best Wishes!

It was a pleasure spending the day with you on the golf course at the Calgary Counselling Centre Charity Event. Being in the presence of such a great athlete is something I will remember forever. Thank you.

Hello Carol. It has been almost two years since I watched you win Gold in 2008. I watched a lot of athletes during the olympics and watched them receive their metals. And of course, I am rejoice with the athletes who reached their goals and won a gold medal. Yet, I wish I understood why watching you receive your gold medal so deeply affected me, and still does to this day. Today, Feb 28 2010, during CTV's closing program on canadian olympic athletes who have won Gold, they showed your picture, and the emotion you had upon winning, and it again triggered all these intense emotions in me again. Emotions are very complicated, and I can better understand why some people dedicate their life to physciatry and trying to understand why we feel the way we do. But I think part of it is, that your countenance, and the expressions you have, your smile, your eyes, communicate,( at least to me), so much kindness, so much care and concern and gentleness, that it seemed impossible for someone like you to win gold in wrestling. Yet , you did it, and in so doing, you greatly increased the respect I have for olympic wrestlers. I despise the culture and agressiveness that goes along with the world of wrestling that exists outside of olympic wrestling. So, when I first saw you before your gold medal olympic match, I wondered what type of a personality does this woman have? And I initially made the mistake of allowing the WWF wrestling federation's culture taint my viewpoint. But when I heard you talk afterwards, it was with wonder... Is it just an impression, or is my impression true, that you are very kind, caring, tender and gentle lady? How do your friends view you? I'm confident , just like I view you. Thank you james taylor

Hi Carol,

I met you tonight (Feb 16) at Richmond City Hall when you gave your presentation. I was really touched by your story. Your training as a wrestler truly shows the spirit embodied by Olympic athletes. Winning Gold in the 2008 Olympics was such a tremendous accomplishment!!!

I briefly touched held your Gold medal, which was such an honour. My only regret was I did not get your autograph.

I hope that you have a wonderful time in Vancouver during the Winter Games, and hope that you enjoy the O Zone in Richmond. I would like to wish you the best with all of your endeavours, and know that you will find tremendous success in every aspect of your life.

Sincerely yours,

Hi Carol,

Every time I watch the YouTube video showing you crying on the podium, while the Maple Leaf was being raised with our national anthem being played, my eyes are filled with tears. And I have watched this video many, many times..., and every time I cried...

I saw in your crying the love for Canada, the pride of being a Canadian regardless of the skin color, and your happiness of making Canada proud after so many years of hard work and dedication for no financial rewards.

I was an immigrant, and Canada and her people were kind and generous to accept me and give me and my family a new life. That favor I will never forget! No wonder I truly love Canada, and with absolute pride, I will sing "Oh Canada, we will stand en guard for Thee!"

I also love your "one million-dollar" smile!

Carol: the impact of your appearance in the spotlight is remarkable for reasons that are truly deep and I encourage you to represent all that you are able to in regards to the undertones running through the weblogs because now that you've re-awakened the dragon that brought you and your folks to this phase of the story, it is as important, as crucial, to defeat that dragon, as it was to overcome your opponents on the mat.

The terrible "isms" that many people spend time cultivating in order to sustain their own inner demons, are just as likely to conquer as virtue is, and we need to teach others how to be "good" and be "golden."

I hope to meet you whenever you are able to come celebrate in Kitanmaax with us and will always remember sharing the thousands of emotions you exposed us to in that few minutes yesterday.

Sincerely V>^

I am at a camp in NS and you were the talk of it yesterday because many of the kids saw you on the opening ceremonies. You have inspired so many of us for so long, wrestle like you can and claim your reward!! The east coast is behind you!

So some article written by someone we don't know says that you're expected to bring home the bronze. I'm pretty sure that person has no clue what they are talking about. Bring the Gold Back Home to Calgary so when I announce your next Match I can say "Olympic Champion Carol Huynh"

All the best.

Wow Carol! I am so impressed. The kind and gentle baby cuddler can kick some serious butt! And here I thought you might be challenged by wrangling 3 babies on the carpet...Really looking forward to seeing you represent in August.

So the other day i was a little embarassed to have googled your name and creep on your website, but now that things are out in the open i guess its ok for me to write you a message. You're awesome and funny and a total weirdo. Im extremely fortunate to beat up on you every day. Good luck this summer (mainly with training cause after that you really just have to show up and wrestle and you're really not too bad at doing that). You're one of those special people i look up to (not literally of course)and i believe that all those "step ups" will pay off when climbing on top of the podium.
